Our operation

Sky Minerals Diamond Mining

River and mountain diamond mining remains one of our major operations, worked across the alluvial districts of Sierra Leone.

The stones are recovered the way they have always been recovered here: gravel lifted from the river beds and the hillsides, washed down by hand, and picked over on site. The same artisan and community miners who bring us gold bring us rough diamond, which is why we can sell in small parcels as readily as in large ones.

How a parcel reaches you

The route is the same one set out in our buying procedure, shortened here to the four stages that matter to a rough diamond buyer.

  1. 01 FCO, then contract

We issue the Full Corporate Offer against your enquiry. You sign and return it, we issue the Sales & Purchase Agreement, both parties sign, and we legalise it.

  2. 02 Table meeting in Freetown

You or your representative travels to Freetown to inspect the parcel and witness every process involved in the transaction before anything moves.

  3. 03 Licensed export and freight

A government licensed exporting company settles the royalties and a nominated shipper handles insurance, freight and delivery, in a maximum of four days to your agreed destination.

  4. 04 Analysis, then payment

The stones are analysed at your own destination, you pay the analysis cost, and full payment follows within five days of that report. Documents, KPC included, reach you 72 hours before the goods do.

River and mountain workings

Our stones come out of the alluvial districts, washed from river gravel and worked out of the hillsides by the same artisan and community miners who bring us gold. It is one of our major operations, not a sideline to the gold trade.

Gold mining

Graded FL–VS1/2, D–G

We sell rough, uncut diamond at FL to VS1/2 clarity in the D to G colour range. The final analysis is made at your own destination rather than ours, and payment follows that report, so the grading you pay on is the grading your own analyst gives.
